H/D lays first egg of 2010
There was great excitement here in Wigtown on Saturday, when we welcomed the ospreys back officially with an open day at the Visitor Centre. The first egg was due, and we were hoping it would be laid during the day. It was not.
On Sunday morning, after eating her breakfast of fish, brought in by EP, H/D was sitting peaceful on the nest, before the Visitor Centre was open. At about 11.30 she started fidgeting around, and by midday we had an egg! EP was present, and wanted to take a turn at sitting straight away, but wasn't allowed to until H/D took a break couple of hours later. Once the Visitor Centre opened at 2pm, William, one of the Hallkeepers (who has been following the ospreys since he was at primary school) rang the County Buildings bell, as is the tradition here in Wigtown.
