Update, Summer Talks

Our Ospreys are all doing well and are growing at a fast rate of knots.

Moving around the nest and jostling for food, feeding till they are full then basking in the sun seems a daily routine for our three youngsters.

Their feathers are beginning to show and in the next couple of weeks this will of course see a ‘feather spurt’ as the chicks head towards the fledging stage. Our chicks in the past have fledged from 49-58 days of age. As we are now approaching 31, 30, 29 days respectively we can expect some excitement in the course of the next 2 weeks!

Over the summer season we are also holding a series of ‘Talks to Make You Think’, and we have arranged a number of guest speakers to attend the visitor centre to talk about subjects they are both proficient in and passionate about. The list is as follows:

Date Topic Speaker
7th July Wildlife Recording and Bugs in your Garden Projects Mark Pollit, ERC Manager
21st July Creatures and Shells on the Beach Jim Logan, Marine Biologist
4th August Wildlife Photography Keith Kirk, Galloway Ranger
18th August Ospreys Brian Morrel, WWT Learning Manager
1st September Rare Fish in the River Cree Liz, Galloway Fisheries Trust
15th September Bats in Dumfries and Galloway Freda Seddon, D&G Bat Group
29th September Cray Fish and other invasive species Jamie, Galloway Fisheries Trust

Hope we will see you at one or all of the above!

Happy Osprey Watching!
