March

March 1st. With the first day of spring being upon us, our thoughts turn once again to our ospreys, and their eagerly awaited return towards the end of the month.  Their nest in Galloway has survived the winter storms well - so far! - and we are hoping that they will take up residence there for a fifth year.  It would also be exciting to see another osprey in the area, as the time is right for our chick from 2003 to return to Scotland. As it was not ringed, we could never be certain  that a new osprey was our chick, but it would be nice to think that it might be.

March 26th : at 5pm, our male, BS, was spotted on the nest for the first time. He looked well after his long flight from West Africa. We rang the bell for him! He began to tidy the nest and bring in nesting material almost immediately. For the last few days of the month he was seen regularly on the nest, either tidying up, resting, or eating a fish. By the end of the month we had seen no sign of the female, H/D, and were beginning to get a little anxious for her well-being.
