June 1st - 7th
June 1st: A sunny day, but quite windy; the female was sitting on the nest being blown about. When she flew off, we had a good view of the chick, but she wasn't gone for long. Our first sight of the male today was when he came in with a large stick - and clouted the female on the head, we hope by accident!. Later he came in with a more useful fish. She fed herself and the chick. The chick looked quite frail. but seemed to be eating well through the day. Early in the evening, we saw it flexing its wings. Later on the male came in with another fish - at least 3 today.
Fri 2nd: First thing the female was sitting quietly on the nest, when a crow was seen flying behind her. We also saw the tree sparrows bobbing around. Then the male came back and stood stretching his wings. When the female got up, we had a good view of our chick, who is looking stronger already and holding its head up much better. It was fed regularly through the day - in fact, it ate so much that late in the afternoon it fell, or rather, rolled, onto its back, and had to be helped up by mum! In the middle of the evening we had a lovely view of the whole family on the nest, both parents feeding.
Sat 3rd: The male brought a fish mid-morning, and the female fed the chick, but quite a large piece was left over, so they can't have been too hungry. The chick was looking good, and growing well, and the sunny weather meant we had frequent views as constant brooding was not needed. It had a long doze in the afternoon, digesting all that fish! Later on the male returned with another stick, this time clouting the chick, but no harm done. It was so sunny, the chick needed a sunshade, but the female decided to stand and preen on the other side of the nest. Late afternoon we had the unusual sight of the male feeding the chick whilst the female stood and preened. The chick looked very alert.
Sun 4th: A lovely day, and our osprey family had a peaceful time. Lunch was a large trout brought in by the male, of which everyone had a part. Later on the chick was taking quite large pieces of fish - no wonder it has grown so fast!
Mon 5th: Early on we had a good view of the chick, when the female stood up. After feeding the chick mid-morning, she stood on the nest preening. We had an alarmng moment at midday, when the female trod on the chick whilst defending it from the crow. It appeared lifeless for a short time, and we were most relieved to see it move again. Early afternoon it appeared fully recovered when it was fed. The tree sparrow paid a visit to the new arrival in the early evening, it seemed to be having a good look!
June 6th: Look how much we've grown in a week! The lovely weather has meant we have seen a lot of our chick, while the female rested on the edge of the nest. At one time when chick was asleep, the male came in and attempted to mate again. Later he brought another stick, to build up the sides of the nest, and again he clunked the chick on the head, waking it up. But he's also brought in lots of fish, so we must forgive him! In fact, there's been so much fish that the chick wouldn't eat late afternoon.

Wed 7th: A calm day, with our chick being fed until it’s full, and then fed some more! Needless to say, it’s growing fast. Early evening we saw the male taking his turn feeding. During the afternoon, the chick was seen moving around the nest a bit, so the nest material that both birds have been bringing in is needed to build up the edge of the nest.
