End of July

Now that 05 is flying, we are quite often looking at an empty nest. However, 05 and its family still visit frequently if only briefly. Early on, 05 usually fed on the nest - it's easier to feed on the nest than perching on a branch! Our watcher on site has reported that 05 has found a nice shady perch lower down the nest tree, where  it likes to sit in the heat of the day. The weather has been glorious - dare one say, almost too hot! - and a little shade must be welcome for our birds. 05 is still frequently being fed by the female, although it is as big as her and well able to feed itself; 05 is so greedy though, that to ensure the female gets her fair share of the food she is still often seen feeding the youngster. Perhaps this is another reason for returning to the nest to feed. As the month draws to a close, we have seen the members of our osprey family less and less frequently.
