May 1st - 7th

May started rather windy, and both birds, H/D and 'no rings', were seen on the nest in the morning of the first. 'No rings' brought a very small fish in the afternoon, and after a bit of a tussle, both left the nest, and little more was seen of them for the rest of the day.

The next day saw better weather, and an attempted mating was seen, but H/D seemed disinterested, and flew off. Little further was seen that day. Over the next couple of days, little was seen of  'no rings', and H/D was seen on the nest only occasionally each day. Then, on Satuurday 5th, all change again! No birds were spotted on the nest until late afternoon,  then, suddenly, there was EP back again with H/D also  on the nest! They were back to back, and both mantling (standing bent over with wings part open, as though protecting or guarding something, often a fish) The next day, we had no sight of any of our ospreys. What is going on this year?! Then on Monday, H/D and EP were back, and there were two attempts at mating and EP brought a fish  - he is at least trying to fulfil his role, if not very skilfully yet.
