Recent Events

May 1

Thurs 1st: EP has settled  well into his role of  'expectant father', and has been doing a share of incubating the egg to-day. He has also brought in fish, and the pair have mated at least once. No second egg as yet - we could reasonably expect one in the next 24hrs.

Fri 2nd: the netting that had been brought to the nest and was causing us some concern vanished over night, which was a great relief. All was quiet first thing, with H/D sitting peacefully on the nest. Later in the morning, both birds were on the nest, with EP taking his turn at incubating. The unwelcome attentions of a crow caused H/D to fly off after it, and when EP stood up for a stretch, there were TWO eggs in the nest! This second egg was probably laid overnight, as the female seemed very settled earlier in the day. Late in the evening we had a lovely view of EP sitting on the eggs in the sunshine (which arrived rather late in the day) with H/D eating a fish beside him. He then flew off whilst she took over egg-sitting duties.

Sun 4th: a windy Saturday passed uneventfully, but today an off-duty Ranger, Keith Kirk, came for a look, and there were THREE eggs on the nest!

Mon 5th - Thurs 8th: both our ospreys have been taking turns at incubating their eggs in the sunny, but quite windy, weather. Our male, EP, has been bringing in fish regularly, and has also brought more nest material, building up  the sides of the nest quite noticably. He has seemed quite keen on incubating, sometimes refusing to move when the female returned.
