May 2

Apart from the weather, which has been mostly excellent, this has been an uneventful week. Our osprey pair have been most diligent in incubating their eggs, and although we have heard crows and seen shadows passing over the nest, we have not witnessed any direct attacks yet.

Let's hope they've given up! On Monday 12th it was so warm the female was panting as she sat on the eggs. Later that same day she was 'shouting' at the incubating male, until he got up and allowed her to take over duty. He certainly appears to be a very commited father, and seems to prefer sitting on the eggs to fishing. Let's hope that once he has more mouths to feed, fishing will move up his priority list! Although on Wednesday 14th he returned to the nest with a good sized trout, which the female took off to eat, returning later with a small piece for the male to finish.
