Thurs 15th: our male caused us a moment of anxiety when he appeared to have something wrong with his left foot. However, it seems that it was a piece of fish which had got speared on his talons, and during the afternoon he simply ate it off.

As the week has progressed, the weather has got cooler, but still dry, with little wind, so fishing should be fairly easy for EP. We have heard the crows quite frequently, but still no evidence of actual attacks.

Sat 17th: A large piece of netting on the nest is now right at the edge - we just need a good gust of wind to remove it completely. Mid-morning both ospreys were on the nest, but neither were on the eggs, so we had a good view of all three eggs. Both birds were watching something intently, and we could hear a crow calling. Then the female flew off, leaving the male in charge. He was holding part of a fish, and it took him some time to manoeuvre himself and the fish safely into position over the eggs. He was still clutching the fish when the female came back a few minutes later and he left the nest! Later, in the afternoon, we witnessed a sustained attack on the nest by crows, but no damage to the eggs could be seen. We are keeping our fingers crossed that our ospreys will continue to defend their nest successfully

Sun 18th; another rainbow trout for breakfast! Both ospreys very alert, watching something overhead, probably crows. Another hot sunny day, making the female pant in the afternoon. No further crow attacks seen, and Monday was an uneventful day, though dull and quite windy.
