May 4

Monday 19th was a peaceful day - except for the weather, which was very windy! The following day, the female was very alert, looking around constantly, suggesting there may have been crows around, though we saw none. When the male brought a fish in early morniong, she grabbed it hungrily, and left to feed, the male taking over incubation of the eggs. Late in the day, we saw both birds on the nest, again the male was doing the incubating.

Wednesday 21st started with a sustained attack from the crows, lasting about four minutes. The female was up off the eggs, protecting the nest with vigourous wing flapping and noisy calling. Half an hour later, there was another attack. This time the female sat tight, with her head low down. Although we had several views of the male through the day, we didn't see him bring fish. Early afternoon, she was turning the eggs, with the male watching from the edge of the nest. Mid-evening he was incubating the eggs, with the female standing by him, trying unsuccessfully to get him to move and let her onto the eggs!

Thursday was another windy day, and saw the female sitting huddled down on the eggs. Then another crow attack, with the female up off the eggs to defend them again. The rest of the day seemed peaceful, with the male bringing a large fish at the end of the afternoon.

Friday was cold and windy, with our ospreys taking it in turn to incubate their three eggs.
Over the week-end there were more crows attacks, but no damage appeared to have been done to the eggs - or the ospreys. The male brought in fish regularly, and also spent some time incubating, and turning, the eggs. The weather has remained windy.
